The cold method process of making soaps uses the method of combing fats or oils with with water and a strong alkali such as caustic soda (lye). Most commonly our soaps are made using vegetable oils such as olive, palm or coconut. These are less greasy than the animal fats used in commercial soap production.
The alkalis create a chemical reaction called saponification which results in the creation of glycerine and fatty acid salts ... also know as soap! As the oils begin to saponify, the essential oils, dried plant extracts & spices are added before the mixture is poured into insulated trays and left to set and mature.
The saponification process removes any trace of lye from the product leaving a natural and soft soap to be used in perfect harmony with the skin. |
